Space Privateer Command ist ein Weltraum-Abenteuerspiel, bei dem der Spieler 3 Story-Missionen erfüllen muss, um seinen Ruf als Weltraum-Freibeuter zu verbessern. Das Spiel wird auf 20 Karten gespielt, davon 6 Planetenkarten, die der Spieler besuchen kann.

Auf jedem Planeten gibt es die wichtige „Bar“, um den neuesten Klatsch zu erfahren, und eine Werft, um das Schiff aufzutanken und zu reparieren. Außerdem gibt es 3 Waren, die die Spieler kaufen kann um sie anschließend auf einem anderen Planeten im Handelsposten zu verkaufen oder zu tauschen. Auf landwirtschaftlichen Planeten werden technische Gegenstände benötigt, während auf Bergbauplaneten Lebensmittel benötigt werden; ein gewiefter Freibeuter kann also durch den Transport von Waren einen kleinen Gewinn erzielen. Die Preise der Waren schwanken jedoch häufig, also muss der Handel gut geplant sein.
