Die Kunst des Haarflechtens Ob in der Literatur, Religion, Heilkunst oder als Schmuck - das Haar spielte schon immer eine zentrale Rolle. Die Verwendung des Haars für Kunstobjekte ist seit dem Ende der Barockzeit nachweisbar. Der weit über die Kantonsgrenze hinaus bekannte Jakob Schiess aus Appenzell ist der jüngste noch aktive Haarflechtkünstler. Seit einem Verkehrsunfall 1998 widmet er sich mit grossem Geschick dieser Passion. Auf seine Anregung hin hat der Historiker und Germanist Johannes Schläpfer ein Buch über das von Schiess gepflegte Kunsthandwerk des Haarflechtens geschrieben. Im Buch werden die einzelnen Schritte vom Haar bis zum fertigen Schmuckstück in Wort und Bild dargestellt. Gleichzeitig schildert der Autor die Bedeutung des Haars im Verlauf der Geschichte, erläutert den kulturgeschichtlichen Hintergrund des Kunsthandwerks und porträtiert lebende wie verstorbene Haarflechtkunstschaffende.

My kitten loves this ball
I originally got this for my 14-year-old dog because he has always loved balls, and I thought it might be a fun way to provide a little extra stimulation and entertainment. While it wasn’t a hit with my senior dog, it was definitely a success with my kitten. Overall, it seems well made, easy to use, and a fun option for playful pets.
