In this first English-language book of Nicaraguan cooking (and indeed, the only one available in any language), Trudy Espinoza-Abrams has dug deep into her childhood in Granada, Nicaragua and sifted through the countless hours spent in her grandmother's kitchen and her aunt's restaurant to come up with a comprehensive guide to Nicaraguan cooking, recipes, ingredients, and food preparation techniques that is both easy to follow and reliably produces excellent and delicious results, even for inexperienced cooks. The book contains many recipes, divided into sections on Breakfast, Salads, Appetizers, Soups, Main Dishes, Side Dishes, Vegetables, Sauces, Desserts, and Drinks. Included are all the famous dishes of Nicaragua, such as Sopa de Carne (Beef Soup), Vaho (Steamed Vegetables with Beef), Plato de Tortuga (Turtle Stew), Nacatamal (Corn & Pork Tamale), Vigoron (Yucca with Pork), Gallo Pinto (Red Beans & Rice), Bunuelos (Cassava Patties with Syrup), Sopa Borracha (Drunken Soup), and many dozens of other traditional Nicaraguan dishes eaten daily in thousands of homes throughout the country. A Glossary of the Spanish-language food terms used in the book is included, as well as a section of food preparation tips. In addition, sprinkled throughout the book are Ms. Espinoza-Abrams' recollections of her grandmother and early life in Nicaragua. Ms. Espinoza-Abrams is already an accomplished writer, having authored the popular Medical Spanish Made Ridiculously Simple (MedMaster, 1992), now in its second edition after having sold over 10,000 copies.

Fun but easy to destroy
Color: Green & Yellow & Blue
We foster puppies and go through a ton of toys. These soft, latex toys are great for non-super chewers, whether puppies or small to medium dogs. Our 20-week-old foster puppy has had a great time with hers, which still squeaks. She is fairly gentle and enjoys squeaking her toys, but is not destructive. If you have super chewers, these will not last for even a minute. One of our dogs got a hold of one toy after a few days and demolished it in literally 6 seconds. The price is quite high for toys if in this style, as you get three of them for $16, and typically you can get similar toys for a much lower price, but they do have a great squeak and the long necks have really pleased the puppy. I think that for the right dog, these would be great, and I would recommend them, but avoid them if your dog likes to destroy their toys because they are terribly easy to rip apart.

Fun new toys
Color: Yellow & Grey & Brown
My dog loves him. They’re easy to squeak and carry in his mouth so it’s a bonus bonus for him. He’s a puppy so he’s not the most coordinated thing yet.

Cute and Durable
Color: Them Apples, Color: Them Apples
I have purchased several Barkbox brand toys for my dog. “Them Apples” may be the cutest of them all. I am impressed at how well-made and designed this toy is. There is a large squeaker at the base of the tree and the rest of the tree has crinkle sound. My dog enjoys playing with the tree as much as he does playing with the apples. The apples are also well made and not flimsy like so many other hide & seek toys. The apples also have squeakers in them. My dog has had this toy for a couple of months now, and it’s still in good shape. I will definitely repurchase if this one ever wears out. Good value for the price.
