By: Victor Davis HansonExamining nine landmark battles from ancient to modern times--from Salamis, where outnumbered Greeks devastated the slave army of Xerxes, to Cortes’s conquest of Mexico to the Tet offensive--Victor Davis Hanson explains why the armies of the West have been the most lethal and effective of any fighting forces in the world.
Looking beyond popular explanations such as geography or superior technology, Hanson argues that it is in fact Western culture and values–the tradition of dissent, the value placed on inventiveness and adaptation, the concept of citizenship–which have consistently produced superior arms and soldiers. Offering riveting battle narratives and a balanced perspective that avoids simple triumphalism, Carnage and Culture demonstrates how armies cannot be separated from the cultures that produce them and explains why an army produced by a free culture will always have the advantage.

Our favorite brand of kid's shoes!
My little girl loves these shoes and they last longer than many other brands I have purchased. They come in several colorways.

Velocer size 5 in blue
Size: 5 Big Kid, Color: Blue/Turquoise/Pink
The 5 is the same as the 4 and a half. I used to write on ankther web site after I got each pair and I had good luck when i wore them. Saucony knows how to helo me. These boys, as i affectionately call them, are adorable. I have to wait til April but wanna start wearing them now. Couldnt ask for better. I am eternally grateful for the help Saucony gives me. I wouldn't be alive without my workouts and they know it. Thank you and I bless you. ❤️❤️❤️🕊️🕊️🕊️

Nice shoes, good price.
Size: 4 Big Kid, Color: Mint/Purple
I ended up sending these direct to my kid at sleepaway camp and thankfully they fit well and have stood up well despite her rugged use of them. Most impt to me, they have RUBBER soles, not that cheap styrafoam mascarading as a sneaker sole.

Run Large
Size: 2 Little Kid, Color: Turquoise/Navy/Purple
We love the Saucony brand for quality, but my child felt the Saucony boys Velocer a/C (Little Kid/Big Kid) ran large. She is a true 2, but the 2s fit too long in the length and width so we returned.

Laces coming off
Size: 5 Big Kid, Color: Blue/Turquoise/Pink, Size: 5 Big Kid, Color: Blue/Turquoise/Pink
Cute and comfy but the laces are coming apart after two weeks of just wearing them to school and home. We got a measly 10$ refund for our troubles 😑
