HGST Ultrastar Data60 SE4U60-60 Drive Enclosure — 12Gb/s SAS, 4U Rack-Mountable

The HGST Ultrastar Data60 SE4U60-60 Drive Enclosure is a premium storage platform engineered to meet the rigorous demands of large enterprises, hyperscale cloud providers, and value-driven resellers. Built to host a mix of HDDs and SSDs, this 4U chassis delivers exceptional density, scalability, and reliability in a compact, rack-ready form factor. It combines enterprise-grade durability with intelligent design that simplifies deployment, maintenance, and ongoing operations, making it an ideal backbone for data-intensive workloads such as virtualization, analytics, backups, and archive storage.

Designed for data centers that require predictable performance and long-term endurance, the Data60 enclosure integrates smoothly with modern storage controllers through a robust 12Gb/s SAS host interface. This ensures high throughput, low latency, and broad compatibility with existing infrastructure. The architecture emphasizes resilience, enabling you to scale storage capacity without sacrificing uptime or manageability. With a flexible drive strategy, you can assemble a tiered storage solution that blends high-IOPS SSDs for hot data with cost-efficient HDDs for capacity, all within a single, consolidated chassis.

From a deployment perspective, the Data60 SE4U60-60 is built for straightforward integration into established IT ecosystems. The enclosure’s hot-swappable drive trays facilitate rapid field maintenance and upgrades, reducing maintenance windows and service interruptions. In addition, its 4U footprint provides substantial drive density while fitting cleanly into standard data-center racks. This makes it an attractive option for data-center modernization projects, capacity expansion, and rapid scaling for cloud-native applications. Operators will appreciate the logical layout, consistent hot-swap design, and the ability to manage storage health and performance from common enterprise management tools.

Beyond capacity and performance, the Data60 enclosure is engineered with reliability and energy efficiency in mind. It supports continuous 24/7 operation with solid thermal management that maintains hardware within safe temperature ranges, protecting data integrity and prolonging drive life. The enclosure is designed to minimize power loss while maximizing cooling efficiency, which translates to lower total cost of ownership over the device’s lifespan. For organizations pursuing green data center initiatives, the Data60 provides a high-density, energy-conscious solution that scales with demand without unnecessary energy overhead.

In practical terms, this enclosure is an excellent match for environments that require rapid provisioning, flexible configurations, and simplified maintenance routines. Whether you are building a new storage farm or expanding an existing one, the Data60 enables administrators to consolidate storage assets, streamline cabling, and standardize the hardware footprint across multiple racks. The result is a resilient, scalable foundation for mission-critical workloads, including virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI), databases, big data analytics, and backup/restore pipelines. In short, the Data60 is a versatile, future-proof platform that helps organizations balance performance, capacity, and total cost of ownership.

Easy install
Just installed in our bathroom. Feels solid. We have a potted plant on it now. You will want a drill bit extender to clear the shelf. I use the flexible type. Otherwise you won’t be able to get the screws in at a 90 degree angle.

Very nice, well made.
The nine-inch oak shelf is well made, and is 45 degrees. The wall where I planned to install it was not, and I suspect this is the problem some of the reviews saying the shelf was not made at 45 degrees. In my case, we removed wood a bit at a time until we achieved a good fit. We did receive all of the hardware, but beware. The plastic straight insert anchors do not snug up with the supplied screws. However we used the supplied plastic toggles with better results. The hardware is why I rate this 4 stars. Otherwise, it is a nice piece, and well worth the price.

Pieces missing, poor instructions, would not buy again!
Let's start with the good news: I did, eventually, get the shelves hung after a trip to the hardware store and some trial and error. Now for the bad news: * One of the screws holding the brace to the shelf was missing, making the shelf wobbly before I even hung it. * The directions for hanging the shelves show a different anchor than the one that comes packaged with them. This anchor will ONLY work in sturdy drywall and it's going to leave a huge hole behind. * The directions tell you to flip the shelf upside-down to position and mark the screw holes, BUT that means the sides of the shelf are reversed, and the hole positions do not match on each side. So if you start hammering or drilling based on those marks, they don't align and now you have extra holes in your wall. Honestly, I regret buying these and wish I'd just chosen a free-standing shelf instead. But I made it work for me, so I guess there's that.

bought these after another set of floating shelves didn't work. these are great and an awesome value!! i've used these in my guest bathroom and also throughout my house. they look great everywhere and are much easier to hang compared to others. my husband was hesitant after the last shelves but these turned out amazing. they are very sturdy and hold a good amount of weight. i would recommend buying these compared to any others.
