What it's used for

  • Floor joists in new-build and renovation projects where C16 or smaller sections fall short of span tables
  • Roof rafters and purlins on pitched roofs requiring a deeper section for structural integrity
  • Loft conversions and structural flat-roof decking subframes where load capacity is critical
  • Load-bearing stud work, beams, and general structural framing in residential and commercial builds

Fitting and handling

Store timber flat and off the ground on level bearers, under cover, with adequate air circulation on all sides to prevent distortion before installation. On site, allow the timber to acclimatise to the ambient conditions for at least 48 hours before fixing, particularly in heated interiors. Fix with structural ring-shank nails or timber screws appropriate to the load; refer to the relevant span tables in BS 8103 or your structural engineer's specification when sizing joists or rafters.

FAQ

What is the difference between C16 and C24 structural timber?

C24 timber is strength graded to a higher classification than C16, meaning it has greater bending strength, stiffness, and load-bearing capacity. For longer spans or heavier loads, a structural engineer or span table will typically specify C24 where C16 does not meet the required performance.

Is this 47mm x 200mm timber suitable for floor joists?

Yes. The 47mm x 200mm (8x2) section is one of the most common sizes used for floor joists in UK residential construction. Its depth gives the span capacity needed for most domestic floor layouts, and C24 grading ensures it meets standard UK building regulation requirements when installed to specification.

What does regularised mean on sawn structural timber?

Regularised timber has been passed through a planing process on its two face sides to bring it to a consistent depth, finishing at approximately 195mm rather than a variable sawn dimension. Eased edges reduce splintering during handling. The faces remain sawn in texture. This consistency is important when setting out joists to a level floor or ceiling datum.

Perfect for HEAVY chewers
Color: Onyx Black - Most Durable
My dog is a heavy chewer. Destroys everything that’s not very hard rubber, hard plastic, or hard material. He LOVES this ball. I think it’s his favorite. Plus, it bounces great so you can play with your dog. Very well constructed- probably indestructible or will at least last a very long time. Easily worth the money.

The only toy my dogs can’t destroy and love
Color: Onyx Black - Most Durable
I am thrilled to have found one toy my dogs don’t destroy immediately. They have torn up Fenrir hammers, the black kongs of all sizes, the monster k9 stick, nylabones, and they don’t like the goughnut at all (it stinks like a bad tire). This is the first one they both love and haven’t been able to destroy immediately. It does allow little tooth marks, but that’s what makes it fun for them. They are very happy playing with it and I’d say this one was worth every dollar. Update Months Later: We’ve gone through 2/3 now. I got two initially, and one has lasted long term. They still haven’t completely destroyed it. They did destroy a second one quickly so I suspect a flaw in it. They sent me a new one and they took a while, but they did destroy the third to the point we had to throw it away. Despite that, one still remains and our dogs still love it. It’s still the best for the money compared to others. We have two Bully XL’s that are each close to 100 pounds.

Indestructible
Color: Onyx Black - Most Durable
This is actually indestrutible! Be careful though, it's wicked hard/heavy. It isn't a ball you want banging into things. Use outside!!

Not indestructible, but the best I’ve found
Color: Onyx Black - Most Durable, Color: Onyx Black - Most Durable
This thing is unexpectedly heavy for its size. My 18 month old Giant Schnauzer is obsessed with fetch but destroys every ball she gets. The other brands marketed for extreme chewers tend to last about a day or two before they’re totally shredded. She’s had this one for about 2 weeks and it’s looking rough, but still holding together for the most part. I appreciate that as it comes apart it does so in little pieces rather than large chunks. While it’s far from indestructible, it’s the strongest I’ve found so far.
