Starring Ruth Warrick (All My Children), Bobby Driscoll, and James Baskett in his Academy Honorary Award-winning role as Uncle Remus, the film features the iconic, Oscar-winning song “Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah” and a series of vignettes drawn from Southern folklore.
NOTE: This Disney film has largely vanished from official circulation due to ongoing criticism over its racially stereotyped portrayals. While Uncle Remus is not depicted as a slave, his characterization aligns with the “Uncle Tom” archetype. As of 2010, Disney CEO Bob Iger described the film as “antiquated” and “fairly offensive.” Nonetheless, it remains a point of fascination and debate—and a sought-after title for serious Disney collectors.
