A rare and evocative necklace, showcasing the highly skilled artistry of reverse carved intaglio work from around 1900.

The pendant is formed as an oval domed rock crystal cabochon, exquisitely carved to the reverse and then hand painted to create a lifelike image of a woven basket filled with we believe are alpine gentians. The composition is beautifully detailed. From the texture of the basket to the vivid blue of the flowers, all magnified through the crystal’s clear, glass like surface, giving the scene depth and an almost miniature, painterly quality.

This intricate panel is mounted in high carat gold, which frames the crystal with warmth and allows the artwork within to take centre stage. The pendant is suspended from a fine gold chain, featuring a subtle rose cut diamond link. A lovely special touch.

WEIGHT: 9.1 grams in total approximately 

Condition: This is overall good antique condition with a patina to of wear to the gold and diamonds as expected for the age of the piece
