Contemporary calf with modern rebacking; pp. [iv], 443, [1, blank]; [ii, title-page], [445]-504, 258, [31], two (repeated) engraved frontispiece-portraits, engraved folding map, title-pages printed in red and black (collation identical with the copy digitized by the Bavarian State Library); occasional very light spotting or toning, otherwise very good.
First edition. Jean Néaulme published an edition in six 12mo volumes in the same year. This is a history of Hungary from Stephen I to Rákóczi's War of Independence against Habsburg (1703–1711), with Rákóczi's important memorandum on the war printed on 258 pages. Long before Hungarian self-determination this is a seminal text of Hungarian historiography. Brenner (167?-1721) was a Hungarian diplomat who followed Rákóczi into exile in Paris.
